Historic Decatur House & Lafayette Square
Historic Decatur House & Lafayette Square
This stately square and the buildings that surround it make up a neighborhood once known as ‘President’s Park’. Renamed in 1825 to honor the Marquis de Lafayette, it soon became an elite Washington address that members of the Cabinet, Congress, and diplomatic corps called home. Today, visitors can still explore the square's landmark buildings, including the Historic Decatur House, which is home to our Association offices. We offer free public tours of the house every Monday, excluding holidays.
