Diana Carlin is professor emerita of communication at Saint Louis University and a retired faculty member and administrator at the University of Kansas. Her research and teaching are in political communication with an emphasis on women in politics, political debates, and presidential rhetoric. She published book chapters on first ladies Martha Washington, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama. She taught a course on the rhetoric of first ladies at Kansas and will teach an interdisciplinary course on first ladies lives and legacies at Saint Louis University in fall 2022. She also teaches courses on first ladies for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at KU and lectures on first ladies for a variety of community groups. She was a panelist at the 2021 White House Historical Association Symposium and the 2020 Colloquium. She is a founding member of FLARE--First Ladies Association for Research and Education and serves asFLARE's treasurer.
