The White House Historical Association holds a special partnership with the White House Correspondents Association based on their shared interest in the Executive Mansion and the history made within its walls.
WHHA partners with the WCHA on a number of significant projects. Together, they co-host a biannual roundtable helping to educate new White House reporters on the history of the White House. In attendance are Association Board Members Anita McBride, Martha Kumar, and Mike McCurry, WHHA president Stewart McLaurin, and Association.
WHHA and WHCA, in partnership with the Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism, offer a scholarship, the Hugh Sidey Scholarship in Print Journalism, honoring the late Hugh Sidey and his alma mater. Established in 2006, the scholarship is awarded to aspiring student journalists who demonstrate an extraordinary understanding of the responsibilities of covering the White House. Each year, the winner is included in annual events for WHCA scholarship winners, including the luncheon held the day before the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, recognition the evening of the Dinner, and one-on-one meetings with members of the WHCA and individual tours of newsrooms, television studios, and the White House Briefing Room. In addition to the scholarship, a representative from the WHCA speaks at the Greenlee School annually.
The White House Correspondents’ Association exists to promote excellence in journalism as well as journalism education, and to ensure robust news coverage of the president and the presidency.
