This portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt was painted by Elizabeth Shoumatoff in 1966. Roosevelt was sitting for Shoumatoff at the "Little White House" in Warm Springs, Georgia on April 12, 1945, when he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and later died. Shoumatoff's original portrait remained unfinished, but she later drew additional likenesses from memory. A former governor of New York, Roosevelt served as president during the Great Depression and World War II, and is the only president to have been elected to four consecutive terms serving from March 4, 1933 until his death.
