Through the support of the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust, the White House Historical Association is seeking applicants for a Decorative Arts Curatorial Intern to work with the White House Office of the Curator (OCWH).

The OCWH is seeking a graduate-level student intern to assist the Associate Curator of Decorative Arts. Primary responsibilities would be to incorporate existing conservation reports on White House Collection objects into the appropriate digital and physical files. The intern would enter conservation reports and images in the office’s collections management database, The Museum System (TMS), and then file the physical copies in the appropriate places. The intern would also help identify object numbers for existing collection photography and then add the images to the correct object’s TMS record. The intern would assist in other office functions as they arise, including object movement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree or graduate level coursework in relevant field (museum studies, material culture, art history, history, public history, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) cataloging software desired, but not required
  • Object handling experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of object conservation procedures desired
  • Ability to pass a basic background check

Time Requirement

  • Flexible, 16 hours a week
  • The internship will last approximately fifteen weeks and align with the intern’s academic schedule if applicable

Compensation

  • The internship will pay $25.00 per hour, and the intern will not exceed 16 hours per week
  • The internship also includes funding for travel-related expenses and registration for the Decorative Arts Trust Winter Antiques Shows’ Emerging Scholars Colloquium in New York City.
