The White House Historical Association seeks an education fellow, referred to as the “Lantry Education Fellow,” to work in the K-12 Education Department in the David M. Rubenstein National Center for White House History. This fellow will be expected to primarily work in person at historic Decatur House on Lafayette Square in Washington D.C., with some remote work time available. The fellowship will last from August 2023 to August 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • The Lantry Education Fellow will assist the Education staff with creating content sessions, coordinating site visits, and designing activities for K-12 educators participating in various summer professional development programs.
  • Through this process, the fellow will work with the Director and Assistant Director of K-12 Education to help identify goals for each program, create content to accomplish those goals, and collaborate with partners to execute chosen content. The fellow will also compile evaluation data from past programs to prepare suggestions for improvement as well as assist with promotion and review of applications for the upcoming programs.
  • Through this work, the fellow will have the opportunity to work across departments at the Association as well as with colleagues at other organizations in the public history field.
  • In addition to tasks related to teacher professional development, the fellow will assist with other outreach and learning resource initiatives within the Education Department, including public tours of historic Decatur House.

Requirements:

  • Students currently pursuing a graduate degree in education, museum studies, public history, and other related fields of study with specific interests in K-12 education should consider applying.
  • A successful fellow will be creative, collaborative, detail-oriented, and have a passion for supporting K-12 educators through professional development.
  • The fellow will be expected to work 24 hours/week for 36 weeks over the course of the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.
  • Additionally, the fellow will work 40 hours/week for 10 weeks during Summer 2024, assisting with facilitation of the programs the fellows has helped plan.
  • The fellow will earn $23.00/hour for their work and will be expected to set a consistent work schedule with the Education Department.
