Ground Floor Corridor

This black and white photograph depicts the Ground Floor Corridor of the White House after the 1902 Roosevelt renovation. First Lady Edith Roosevelt first exhibited former state dinner services in the Ground Floor Corridor. The dinner services were housed in oak cabinets by furniture designer Gustav Stickley. Architect James Hoban installed the groin vaulting around 1793 during the original construction of the White House. Its construction withstood the burning of the White House by the British in 1814.
