Support the Future of History

~

Our work would not be possible without the generous support of our corporate partners.

who we are

The White House Historical Association was founded in 1961 out of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s efforts to transform the house into a historical museum. In just over a year, Mrs. Kennedy – with the support of a few prominent individuals — turned The Executive Mansion into a showcase of American artwork and craftsmanship. We continue to promote Mrs. Kennedy’s vision for the “people’s house,” and provide the funds to protect its objects, preserve its interiors, and ensure public access to its living history.

To provide these funds we rely entirely on private donations — the White House does not allot public money to pay for its own historic preservation.

WHAT WE DO

What’s the connection between a 200-year-old tea box and a 12 terabyte image database? They’re both part of the Association’s mission to protect, preserve, and provide public access to the rich history of the Executive Mansion.

what we do, continued...

We’ve funded the acquisition of important objects and extensive interior renovations to the house itself; digitized over 215 years of historical images; and even formed an educational partnership with the Washington Nationals.

Sales of our Official White House Ornament and gifts from a select group of generous donors have funded our efforts thus far, but as these resources plateau, our Premiere Giving members will play a critical role in securing the future of this important work.
